Sedation Dentistry

At White Mountain Dental, we know that you may have anxiety over dental work. Our compassionate staff is trained in pain-relieving options for the various procedures we do. These options fit both the requirements of the dental procedure and your own comfort level: laughing gas (nitrous oxide), oral conscious, and IV sedation.

If the thought of dental work fills you with dread, be sure to communicate this to our staff before your appointment, so we can come up with a solution that will ease both your pain and anxiety.

Laughing Gas

Laughing gas is a common sedation method. A mask is placed over the nose for the duration of the procedure, and the effects wear off soon after the mask is removed. You will be conscious but also relaxed.

Another benefit to the use of laughing gas is that you will be able to hear and respond to our staff. Because the effects wear off fairly quickly, you can safely drive to and from your appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is administered in pill form prior to your appointment, usually an hour beforehand. This sedation relaxes but does not render you unconscious. Like laughing gas, you will be able to hear and respond while under its effects. Nevertheless, you will need a ride to and from the appointment because this form of sedation causes intense drowsiness.

IV Sedation

IV Sedation is an excellent option for patients who are anxious about dental work, especially for procedures that involve any type of surgery or intensive work. An anti-anxiety medication is administered through an IV during your procedure. You will not be unconscious, and you will be able to respond to us as we work with you. You will require a ride to and from the procedure.
